Hi, I am Ewa (ev-ah)!
I am an interior architecture grad student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). I’ve been offered a unique opportunity to spend this summer at the San Francisco office of Hart Howerton Architects researching biophilic design as part of the firm’s fellowship program.
I will focus my research on education and workplace design. I hope to turn biophilic design into a household name. My wish is that this human-centric, nature-based approach becomes a common practice applied in all design disciplines.
My research will take me across the USA and Canada, starting right here in the Bay Area. This website will serve as a platform to share my experiences, resources, interesting facts I discover, as well as my ongoing research findings. It is also a place open to your comments, suggestions and questions.
As this is just the beginning of my research journey, my exact itinerary is not set just yet. The places I hope to visit to research best-in-class biophilic spaces include New York, Boston, Cambridge, Chicago, Toronto, Seattle and Hawaii, all to:
- to survey the latest and most advanced applications of biophilic design (in-person visits to workplaces & schools)
- to uncover motivations of said organizations behind implementing biophilic design concepts
- to assess tangible results arising from the design application over time
Thanks so much for joining me on the journey!
And many thanks to Hart Howerton, the sponsor of this incredible opportunity. You can read more about the fellowship program here.
